How to create a swatch file?

When it comes to print on demand, achieving accurate colour representation on your products is crucial for customer satisfaction. Creating a swatch file that is unique to your designs will allow you to understand the color output and make necessary adjustments for optimal print results

Why should you place a Swatch Sample?

A colour on screen can look completely different when it's printed, due to multiple factors including screen calibration, RGB - CMYK translation, printer settings etc. With a Swatch Sample, you will have a better understanding of the print output of the colours helping you choose the right shades for your designs on the screen.

You can access a sample swatch file here.

To create a Customised Swatch file, you can follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open your design file in a graphic design software of your choice.

Step 2Identify the specific colors used in your design file that you want to test for accurate color representation.

Step 3Create a new document in your graphic design software with a small canvas size, such as 2 inches by 2 inches. Name the document as "Swatch File" or something similar.

Step 4Using the color values from your design file, create colour swatches in the swatch file. You can use the software's colour picker tool to accurately input the RGB values of the colors you want to test. Label each color swatch with its corresponding color values for easy reference.

Step 5Save the swatch file in JPEG or PNG format. Make sure to save the file with a high resolution (Minimum 300 DPI) to ensure accurate color representation.

Step 6: Place a sample order using the customised swatch file on the Merchant Panel by following the steps guided in the following article. How to place a Sample Order?

For apparel products, you can place the swatch file on both white and coloured apparel products since the overall look of the colours can differ depending on the base colour.

Once the swatched product has been received, you can review the colour output of the swatches on the product. Compare the color representation on the product with the original design file to identify any discrepancies. If needed, make adjustments to the design file using the color values from the swatch file to ensure accurate color output during printing.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your print-on-demand products meet your colour expectations and delight your customers with high-quality and accurately represented designs.
